Oil Cooler Shroud & Fairing Panel Removal

Remove the seat by unlocking the latch, pushing the seat toward the rear and lifting the back of the seat up. Set the seat aside in a safe place.

Move to the front of the bike above the front fender. On the underside of the oil cooler shroud remove the two screws that hold the shroud in place. Remove the shroud by pulling toward the front.

Start removal of the fairing side panels by unscrewing the two fasteners in the oil cooler well.

Move to the top of the fairing panels underneath the handlebars and remove the two forward facing screws, one on each side of the instruments. Next remove the two rearward facing screws, again one on each side.

Move to the back of the fuel cell and remove the two screws that hold the steel cross brace in place. Remove the two screws, one on each side, from the front of the sidecovers just below the brace.

One last screw, a very special one. It's located at the rear of the side panel at the bottom, and it hides in a little corner. The screw is one of the flat ended short ones that threads directly into the aluminum engine support. You may want to set this one aside away from the other screws so you'll remember to use it in this location on reassembly. Remove the partner screw from the other side panel. Pop the fairing panel loose from the grommet by gently lifting out on the part of the fairing directly above the engine mount. Pull only until you feel the panel give as the stud disengages form the grommet.

Wiggle the side panel to make sure it's free on all sides and there are no screws still attaching it to the bike. Pull slightly outward on the lower edge so the panel just clears the engine support, then lift the rear of the fairing up so the fingers on top edges disengage from the center panel on top of the fuel cell. At this point you should be able to pivot the entire panel outward at the rear and pull back to release it from the bike. Set it aside in a safe place and repeat for the other panel.
